Poem: “The Way”

The Way

Stand straight up and then look down,
It is a long way to the ground,
Big we are the upright, proud,
Deep the impact, long and loud

Better not to be so tall
That devastating is the fall,
The arch of heaven curving near
That we must stoop to enter, clear

The narrow way is little, low,
Eternity begins but grows,
The fullness of it measureless
The angels and the stars confess

Then martyrs, prophets all proclaim
That radiance the Holy Name,
Apostles and the rest of us
Let go our length, and bow, and trust
