Now is Not the Time For Silence or Compromise

6

Ever since the Obama administration chose to ramrod a policy that is anathema to Catholic doctrine, we have seen all sorts of machinations emanating from the media, twisting and mollifying the argument in order to remove clarity from exactly what it is Obama is attempting to do.

We have heard that since so many Catholics already use contraception, the bishops should not be troubled about the Obama diktat. Even though the press has extrapolated a fallacious statistic to make the argument, most people honestly believe that those who claim to practice Catholicism also ignore the Church’s moral teaching and literally spit in the face of God by using contraception.

Wrong-headed, yes, but it serves the purposes of the mainstream media mob. In union with Obama and his allies, the press has arrogated unto itself the right to demean Catholic teaching and use whatever ploy is necessary to take the focus away from the fact that the Obama mandate is violating the Constitution and the rights of religious bodies to be free of government intrusion.

The latest little tactic came in the form of 31-year-old Georgetown law student, Sandra Fluke. Understand that Georgetown is a Catholic institution, thus making the skewing of facts even sweeter for those who perpetrate mayhem on the unsuspecting public. Fluke, known for her leadership in one of Georgetown’s most committed pro-abortion organizations — Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice — took center stage as the star in Nancy Pelosi’s special hearing on why the Obama mandate was really perfectly fantastic. Fluke bemoaned the high cost of birth control, while never admitting that every alleged fact she used was contrived, nor did she ever point out that practicing abstinence would cost nothing at all.

In other words, she played her role very well indeed, muddying the waters and inviting many Americans to feel her pain and thus support the Obama decree.

But, in the midst of all of this, Cardinal Timothy Dolan was not to be ignored. Following the Fluke foray, the cardinal sent a letter to his brother bishops and stated in his blog that things were not any better today, after the Obama “adjustment” of February 10, than they had been. He wrote, “There was not even a nod to the deeper concerns about trespassing upon religious freedom, or of modifying the HHS’ attempt to define the how and who of our ministry through the suffocating mandates.”

Further, he writes that efforts to “work out the wrinkles” with the White House have had exacerbating results, saying White House staff “advised the bishops’ conference that we should listen to the ‘enlightened’ voices of accommodation, such as the recent, hardly surprising yet terribly unfortunate editorial in America. The White House seems to think we bishops simply do not know or understand Catholic teaching and so, taking a cue from its own definition of religious freedom, now has nominated its own handpicked official Catholic teachers.”

Clearly the battle has been engaged. Now, most critically, the fundamental teachings of the Catholic Church, based on moral and ethical principles that are God-given rather than man-driven, need to be emphasized repeatedly, taught from every pulpit, and disseminated — even to the media. If the media will not hear it, we have other ways to deliver the truth.

Now is not the time for silence and it surely is not the hour of compromise. What is right and just does not change. We will stand up, we will insist that the truth be told, and we will not accept any Obama mandate that contradicts our faith or the teachings of our Church.

Catholics, unite!

A little late for grandstanding, bishop Dolan.
This edict was given by the “enlightened” and honorary catholic B. Hussein Obama. Those who opposed him were arrested at Notre Dame. No protests from Dolan or other hierarchy then.

    “Working out the wrinkles”?!?!
In these words is hidden the root of the problem.
How do you work out the wrinkles out of a steel mesh of usurpation of power, trampling on the Constitution and disdain for the First Amendment.
It can’t be done, Your Excellency, it can’t be done.

This is a Catholic problem first of all. It was created by Catholics going along with a Marxist president.
Catholics provided the ammunition and the platform for the Fluke to launch her assault.
This did not come out of Berkley, but Georgetown.
A Jesuit institution harboring and promoting reproductive justice.
Listen to the words – reproductive justice.

Who are the key players here, Sebelius, Pelosi,
and other “enlightened catholics” who can find many other influential and “enlightened catholics” as joyful and grateful recipients of Obamacare.

We can not withstand assaults from the enemy if within our ranks we have traitors who keep dropping the drawbridge.

There are no wrinkles to work out here, dear bishops. This is the time to put on the metsl armor against Obama and his conscripts of “enlightened catholics” who are cloaked in their
    steel mesh of scumbaggery.

    Goral,
I am not sure of the point you are making.

Of what exactly are you accusing Cardinal Dolan? Are you implying he is not a suitable person to be a Catholic leader?

    Are his comments merely “grandstanding”?

As a cardinal why do you refer to him as “bishop Dolan” and “Dolan”? Usually a cardinal is referred to as “Your Eminence” not “Your Excellency”.

Is Cardinal Dolan going along with a Marxist President?

Is he among “the enlightened Catholics” you condemn?

This is a Catholic problem first of all. It was created by Catholics going along with a Marxist president. That’s my point, Noelfitz.

Cardinal Dolan is one of our better Shepherds,
    he is very capable.
In a narrow context, he is grandstanding mainly because the Church has put itself in this corner.
I support his opposition to this diktat, entirely.

A cardinal is still a bishop, which is the highest authentic Church office. The additional titles are political. The Holy Father is still a bishop. Your correction is noted and appreciated.

I don’t know how Dolan, Cardinal Dolan if you prefer, voted. What we do know is that Obamacare was well received by the majority of our hierarchy, once the exclusion was included.
So yes, they, the Church did go along with a Marxist prez. on this one. Too bad for us because the backstabbing came from our own “enlightened catholics”.

I know that Dolan is not among those whom I condemn. I think he’s quite orthodox and a very likable man.
He and all those who put their trust in the words of our liar-in-chief are now smarting.
I also think that ultimately we are going to win this one.
The unity in the Church on this issue is nothing short of impressive.
    Thanks for your exchange, noelfitz.

    Hello Goral,
many thanks for your clear and respectful reply to me.
I hesitated before submitting my post, but decided to do it.

We are here to built each other up and support each other. Most of us share a deep commitment to the Church. Being Irish I seem to disagree with some contributors here in CL, but never on fundamentals of the faith.

I believe we Catholics should hang together rather tham hang separeately, so I do not want to seem critical or negative.

I share a deep respect for Cardinal Dolan.

I read in an Irish web site

“In just a decade, Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York City, has risen from a local bishop to becoming a prince of the Catholic Church. He returned from Rome after receiving his cardinal’s red hat and ring, like a rock star; a bevy of cameras and lights in tow.

Worldwide buzz around the newly minted Cardinal Dolan is that with his popularity, political savvy, and passion for the church, the question is being raised as to whether he could be the first American pope.”

    I also read
“The New York Archbishop also said he was angered by the administration’s suggestion that the Church follow its more liberal members.

“We kind of got our Irish up when leaders in government seemed to be assigning an authoritative voice to Catholic groups that are not the bishops,” he said.

“If you want an authoritative voice, go to the bishops.”

The New York Times reports that Cardinal Dolan also claimed that, in an era when the church is fighting the government on several fronts, they need to make their voices heard in the political sphere.

President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cardinal Dolan said: “We are called to be very active, very informed and very involved in politics.”

Once again, Goral, many thanks and God bless.

Never hesitate to take me to task, Noelfitz.
Perhaps if Cardinal Dolan ever becomes a pope, we could share a brew in some Irish pub.
As long as we don’t get too deep into church matters, no brawl would ensue.

Who knows what the Holy Spirit plans but there is a saying in Rome that many a man enters the Conclave a pope and comes out a cardinal.

Best wishes and blessings on the upcoming
    St. Patrick’s day.

    Goral,
I appreciate your reply and invitation to an Irish pub.
    You wrote

I disagree with you as we would never brawl about church matters, but about politics I am not so sure.
