One-Year New-Testament Reading Plan

Only a few days remain until the new year begins. If you are pondering a spiritual journey, you may want to consider starting to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, as explained here: Through the Year of Faith with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

May I also suggest a read-through of the New Testament? Here is a reading plan to cover the whole New Testament in a calendar year. The first plan includes the dates, from Jan. 1st through Dec. 31st. The second has no dates, in case you’d like to begin on a day other than New Years’, such as your birthday, or Ash Wednesday.

This plan doesn’t begin — as many such plans do — with the Gospel of Matthew and then continue sequentially through to the Book of Revelation. The Gospels are distributed through the year, not all “bunched” at the beginning; books by the same, or associated, authors are grouped together; and, as much as possible, groups of longer books alternate with those of shorter books. (The daily division is based on the one here; the arrangement is based on the ideas here.)

If you would like some study helps, you could not do better than the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible – New Testament. Besides comprehensive introductions and informative notes, this edition includes cross-references to paragraphs in the Catechism.

I am reading through the NT using The Navarre Bible series. It is superb! Great commentary. I also love that each book is so easy to handle instead of having one large book. What a treasure. It has really made my commitment to read through the NT during this year of faith something very manageable.
