A Silver Fence
A silver fence invisible
A wedding couple will contain
Although their rings perceptible
Guard the fingers of their veins
Christ the shepherd wedding guest
Rings them in the sanctuary
Where the Eucharist is blessed,
The sheepfold of fidelity
Rings of silver need require
On the fingers of the heart
Nothing round against the fire
Burning where the deserts start
But if a ring has been removed
Rings of silver downward fall,
A wilderness against their love
Will overcome that silver wall
Likewise in the dreams of one
Who in the night a ring removes
A demon of the night may come
Unless by Christ is it is reproved
